Well, this question resonates in everything I… you… do.
Who we are being determines our doing.
See, if you don’t feel like someone who can be an awesome tutor, you can’t do the job of tutoring.
It will feel fake.
And that’s normal.
If you don’t believe you can tutor, then chances are it won’t come easily to you.
I once had a tutoring student, he was in sixth grade and man, sluggish didn’t begin to describe him. Let’s call him Billy.
Billy made it about 15 minutes into the one-on-one tutoring session, diving into his reading and writing skills, and to say it wasn’t going well would be an understatement.
He was all but underwater - mentally.
His response time was ridiculously slow.
His energy was non-existent.
His ability to think, reason and even function was, well, hindered would be a nice way to put it.
Billy was lagging and I was struggling to figure out why.

It doesn't have to be. It shouldn't be. And from this moment on it's simply not.

Biz school or marketing books will tell you to place ads. To definitely get biz cards made but only after you decide on a name and file all your biz license paperwork, open a checking account and maybe even shop for "supplies"! And of course, you'll need a website.
All this before your first client even walks through your tutoring door!
Do I need to have a teaching degree to be a tutor?
This is a question I am asked all the time.
Short answer, no.
You do not need to be a teacher nor do you need to have a degree, certification or tons of experience to be a great tutor.
(Now that's not to say if you are a teacher you won't make a good tutor, so don't twist this if you in the classroom. Instead, read on to see if you agree.)
